Romantic Style - "Beach in Messina"

______ was born in Como, Italy and moved to the United States when she was two. Her piece "Beach In Messina" is about how even after she and her family moved to New York, she would visit Italy. Her's first movement "Water Fun" is about getting to the beach and the exhilaration she would feel being there. In the beginning of the movement she tried to show the feeling of putting a toe in the water, and immediately pulling back because of the cold by repeating a bouncy pattern. Then, gradually she gets used to the water and goes in further. As she is doing this her sisters sneak up on her and the scale going down towards the end represents the stealthy movements until finally, they splash her. her's second movement, "Sunbathing" is after she's done playing in the water, and she lays down with her oldest sister to tan in the sun. As a seven year old impatient girl, it wasn't the most fun thing to do. But, she still wanted to spend some time with her sister and get darker. The movement is slower that the first to represent the boredom and longing for it to be over. This continues through out the piece until the end when she thinks they are finally done, but they just turn on their stomachs to do the other side, hence the drum solo. The final movement, "Car Ride" is the car ride home from the beach. By now it's getting dark and you can see the lights of the city Messina. The one song she would always hear when getting into the car would be "Senza fare sul serio." Therefore, she took inspiration from this song to making that reoccurring pattern of the low down beat. The major theme and slow tempo of the song was to show the feeling of tiredness after a fun day at the beach.
